Is it possible to predict whether a promotional piece, such as an advertisement, a web page, a promotional email, or a sales letter, will be successful in persuading a reader or viewer to take the desired action of a purchase or a next step in a selling sequence?

Clive Cable believes he has uncovered a way to analyze promotional communications to do just that. Cable has 35 years of experience as a copywriter (writing sales and marketing material) and as a salesperson.

Using ChatGPT, Cable analyzed many million-dollar controls - successful advertisements and sales letters - to look for common traits. His principal resource was The Greatest Direct Mail Letters of All Time by Richard Hodgson.

He found the structure of the sales letters triggered a set sequence of five chemical reactions associated with certain emotions. First cortisol; then dopamine; then oxytocin, then serotonin, and finally endorphins.

Cortisol is associated with a sense of threat, urgency, relevance (create tension, get attention). Dopamine is associated with curiosity (reward anticipation, desire to keep reading). Oxytocin is associated with a sense of trust, bonding, social connection (relax). Serotonin is associated with credibility, authority, confidence, assurance (belief you can deliver). Endorphins are associated with satisfaction or relief, resolution (emotional exhale).

According to Cable, following this sequence with qualified prospects results in conversion becoming allowed, instead of forced.

Several classic sales letters are analyzed for their "chemical" sequence content, including The U.S. School of Music's "They laughed when I sat down at the piano.", BluBlockers' "Vision Breakthrough", Gary Halbert's "Coat of Arms" letter, and the Wall Street Journal's "Two young men" letter.

The analyses are examples of Cable's Neurocopy AnalyserT, an artificial intelligence tool that generates a report that rates the overall level of marketing effectiveness using the emotional "beats" of a marketing communication and gives suggestions for improvement.

Many clients have used Cable's Neurocopy AnalyserT with remarkable response results.

Knowing, understanding and using the information in Neurocopy and, possibly, the Neurocopy AnalyzerT, can help eliminate the guesswork in structuring your sales and marketing communications.
